ADHD – Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder Discover find
out what 5% of kids suffer from?
Attention
deficit hyperactivity disorder
is the name for a group of behaviors found in many children and also
adults. It
is also know as ADHD
and ADD It
is been estimated that approximately 5% of children of school age have it.
Other studies have put the figure at 4 to 12 percent. It is more
common in boys than girls. It used to be know as ADD, but was renamed ADHD
in 1994. Some
of the medicines used to treat this group are methylphenidate
(brand name: Ritalin), dextroamphetamine (brand name: Dexedrine). Overall
these medicines improve attention and concentration, and decrease
impulsive and overactive behaviors, which are symptoms common to ADHD. It
must be remembered that kids with this problem can
become anxious. They can be difficult for their parents, not understanding
instructions, appearing forgetful and usually in a constant state of being
active.
