Fibromyalgia - Autoimmune DiseaseDiscover What Nearly Four Million Sufferers Have in Common With YOU!
Fibromyalgia
(FM) syndrome shares symptoms with several of the autoimmune
diseases. It is a
disorder with symptoms of widespread muscle pain and fatigue. This fatigue
results in one feeling tired and having low energy. Other symptoms are muscle pain in many areas of the body, which are common
with other autoimmune diseases. If
a person is found to have an autoimmune disease , the
immune system mistakenly attacks itself and targets the tissues, cells and
organs of the person’s own body. A
person with FM, will have besides the fatigue, tender points in
specific areas of the body that are painful when pressure is applied. In
addition to the above problems, sufferers will have sleep
problems, irritable bowel syndrome
(IBS) and restless legs syndrome (RLS). Chronic
Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) and Fibromyalgia (FM) have many similarities. In
fact it is not uncommon for a person to have both conditions. Some
experts believe that the two conditions are variations of the same
disorder. Both CFS and FM have pain and fatigue as symptoms. The
main symptom of CFS is extreme fatigue. CFS
seems to often begin after an episode of flu like symptoms. Also people only do not have the tender points that people with
Fibromyalgia
have. The
causes of autoimmune diseases are not known. It is known that some diseases seem to run in families. However, they
may
show up as different illnesses in different family members. For example, a
grandmother may have lupus, her daughter diabetes, and her mother
rheumatoid arthritis A
doctor can diagnose autoimmune diseases asking a patient about her
symptoms and in addition by looking at laboratory tests. The diseases are difficult to diagnose, especially in the early stages. In
some cases, a diagnosis cannot be made and the patient must continue with
many visits to the doctor.
